Make 8K Your New Year’s Resolution

One of the biggest surprises on the floor was Sony's Master Series ZG9 LCD televisions. The company's first foray into 8K resolution displays offers incredible picture quality not seen in homes before. The TVs boast what Sony calls "the most accurate and faithful recreation of the [content] creator's intent." The design is based on their own BVMX300 Mastering Monitors -- one of the most common monitors used in Hollywood.

ZG9 comes in both 85- and 90-inch versions and feature the X1 Ultimate processor, only available in the company’s premium TVs. X1 Ultimate analyzes every frame of content to ensure the quality of the color, brightness, and clarity are at optimum levels. It also features four front-firing speakers for capable audio performance.

B&W Formation Does Not Disappoint

If you’ve been following our blog, you already know all about Bowers & Wilkins’ Formation series of wireless hi-fi speakers. They showcased the stunning quality of the sound components at CEDIA 2019, along with a surprising addition: the Formation Flex.

Like the Formation Wedge, Flex is an all-in-one speaker component. However, in a design tweak intended to evoke a more familiar look, the Flex stands upright instead of boasting the horizontal oblong shape that makes Wedge so distinct. But the shape difference doesn’t impact performance, as the Flex sounds absolutely stunning.

As the name implies, Flex is designed for a variety of uses. It works well as a stand-alone piece (similar to Sonos’ One speaker), as part of a two-channel pair, or as a rear speaker in a 5.1 surround sound setup. Like others in the Formation line, it easily pairs with the Bass and Bar components.

Rethinking Home Theater Design

If there's one thing to take away from CEDIA 2019, it's that traditional, stuffy home theater design is quickly giving way to more versatile, flexible, and fun technology. You don't need an unused room or basement to enjoy the full quality of your favorite content. You just need the right AV equipment and a technology partner to help you achieve your goals.
